Post: CCSD 4th & 5th Grade Students Compete in Amazing Shake Jr.

The Chambers County School District recently completed competition for the Amazing Shake Jr. for its fourth and fifth grade students.  The district has reshaped the competition for the Amazing Shake for the 2024-25 school year.  The Amazing Shake Jr. competition will be the first of three levels carried out this year with additional competitions to be held for both middle school and high school students. The Amazing Shake Jr. contest was a county wide competition for elementary school girls and boys to participate in.

This year’s Amazing Shake Jr. included 4th and 5th grade students from Eastside John P. Powell STEAM Magnet School, Fairfax Elementary School, and Huguley Elementary School. The purpose of this competition was to help younger students begin their first Amazing Shake Jr. contest. The first round of competition started with all 24 students interviewing with community members. Ten students moved on to Round 2, where they had to create and pitch a business plan to judges from the Chambers County Development Authority.

The third and final round saw five students that were interviewed by Assistant Superintendent, David Owen, as well as the Director of K-8 education, Dr. Sheila Jones. The winners, listed below, will be honored at the board meeting on October 29th for the Chambers County School District board. The CCSD would like to extend a special thank you to Steve Wheeler with Alfa Insurance, the Chambers County Development Authority, and the many judges who volunteered their time to give our students this opportunity.

Congratulations to our 2024-2025 Amazing Shake Jr. Winners:

1st Place- Brynlee Wood – Huguley Elementary – 4th grade

2nd Place- Raevyn Benstead – Huguley Elementary – 4th grade

3rd Place- Avery Weldon – Fairfax Elementary – 5th grade

The next phase of the Amazing Shake will be for middle school students in grades 6-8th.  It will run from Oct.to December with the winners of that competition being awarded an internship with Representative Debbie Wood next spring. New this year is a high school Amazing Shake competition for grades 9-12th. That competition will run from January until March, and with winnerscompeting for scholarships. Special thanks also goes out to the Amazing Shake district sponsor, Mrs. Sarah Maddux.
