Mary Ethyl Smith Freeman , 93, of Peachtree City, Georgia passed away peacefully at her home on July 28, 2024.
The 10th of 12 children, Mary was born on September 4, 1930 to parents James Arthur Smith and Katie Traylor Smith in Tenbroeck, Alabama.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Billy Gene Freeman and her son Mark Alan Freeman. Mary leaves behind her daughter Lee Ann Freeman Howington of Griffin, Georgia, her daughter-in-law Karen Bowden Freeman of Ft. Payne Alabama, grandchildren Matthew (Susana) Freeman, Luke (Lee) Freeman, Ben (Linsey) Freeman, Jared (Misty) Leeson, James Leeson and Katie Freeman (Jason) Owen. She also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren John Thomas, Matthew, William, Mary Elizabeth, Christopher, Lillie, Belle, Faegan, Huelon and Thatcher.
Mary was a graduate of Auburn University and earned post-graduate degrees from the University of Georgia and The University of West Georgia. She had an incredible 40 years of service in the field of Education as an elementary school teacher, a reading specialist and a school principal.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at11:00 AM at Union Baptist Church, Jones Crossroads (GA18 & GA 219).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Southern Grace Hospice Foundation in memory of Mary Smith Freeman.
