Post: John Lee Fulghum Obituary

John Lee Fulghum, a cherished family man, respected craftsman, and a beacon of kindness, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024, in Lanett, Alabama. Born on December 8, 1938, in Chambers County, Alabama, John’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, love, and storytelling.

John was preceded in death by his beloved father, John W. Fulghum, his mother, Irene Fulghum, his son, Jay Todd, his wife, Patricia A. Fulghum, and his sister, Lurline Hanna. His legacy continues through his devoted children, Kim Yarbrough (married to Ronnie), Denise Fulghum, Kelly Hamby (married to Ruben), and his son, Tim Fulghum (married to Hector). John’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his adoring grandchildren, Crystal Crawford, Ryan Yarbrough, Steven Fulghum, Eric Fulghum, Clint Fulghum, Ashley Kirby, Whitney Fulghum, Allis Colvin, and Austin Hamby. His great-grandchildren, Lakelyn Crawford, Layten Crawford, Mason Yarbrough, Ada Yarbrough, Adrienne O’Neal, Mikayla Bassett, Joshua Fulghum, Charlie Fulghum, Anthony Fulghum, Emberleigh Kirby, Collins Kirby, Kanen Fulghum, Aria Fulghum, and T.J. Fulghum, as well as his great-great-grandchildren, Colt Bassett and Waylon Bassett, will carry forward his stories and teachings.

John’s life was marked by a profound love for his job and the work of his hands. He was known for his wisdom, his handy skills, and his unfailing kindness. His passion for storytelling was matched only by his love for his family, whom he adored above all else. John’s tales were not just mere stories but were threads that wove the fabric of his family’s history and values, leaving a rich tapestry for generations to come.

An avid outdoorsman, John found solace and joy in the natural world. He loved to hunt and fish, especially when accompanied by his grandchildren, with whom he shared not only his outdoor skills but also life lessons and laughter. His love for music was evident in the way he played guitar and other stringed instruments, a hobby that brought harmony to his life and to those around him.

John’s collection of guns and knives was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his appreciation for craftsmanship and history. Each piece in his collection had a story, and he was always eager to share these tales with anyone who showed interest.

Those who knew John would describe him as a man of great wisdom, always ready with advice or a helping hand. His kindness was as reliable as the sunrise, and his presence was a comfort to those around him. John’s hands, ever capable, fixed what was broken and created what was needed, leaving a tangible legacy of his talent and care.

As we bid farewell to John Lee Fulgham, we celebrate a life well-lived, a family well-loved, and a story well-told. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the lives of those he touched. John’s journey on earth has ended, but his story will continue to unfold in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.

Memorial Service for John will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM (EDT) in the chapel at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, Alabama. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM (EDT). Reverend Bobby Crawford will be officiating.
