Post: Ann Clark Obituary

We come together to celebrate the life and cherish the memory of Ann Clark, a source of light and hope to all who knew her. Born on December 28, 1941, in the small, close-knit community of Shawmut, Alabama, Ann lived a life marked by love, service, and an unquenchable spirit that brought joy to others. On July 4, 2024, at her residence in Valley, Alabama, Ann passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that will be remembered by all.

Ann will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cherie Hull and husband Kevin, Ricky Clark, and Kelli Atkins; her precious grandchildren, Noah Hull, Meghan Childress and husband Chris, Karoline Turner and husband Ben, Connor Clark, Parker Atkins, and Jessica Rodgers; as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Ruby and Ella Kate Turner, and Jameson and Cohen Childress. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Jeanetta Blankenship and husband Mack; brother-in-law, Charlie Clark; her nieces and nephews, Debbie Meador and husband Kenny, Burman Clark, Sherri Billos, and Eddie Clark; great nieces, Morgan and Madison Smith; and the extended love and friendships within the Merna, Hall, and Butler families. Her lifelong best friend, Brenda Perry, will miss the irreplaceable bond they shared throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Gene Clark; her parents, Paul and Minnie Hammock and Charlie and Pearl Butler; her brother, Robert Hammock; and her caring uncle and aunt, James and Margaret Merna.

Ann was the heart of our community, and her absence will be felt deeply by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Before retiring as a well-respected hairstylist, Ann took great pride in putting herself through school, exemplifying her determination and independence. Her skills and warm personality made a visit to her salon about more than just a haircut—it was a haven of friendship and support.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ann was an active and devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, where her faith was an essential part of who she was. Her involvement with organizations like the Pilot Club and the Knights of Columbus reflected her commitment to service and her passion for making a difference in her community. Ann’s contributions to these associations, as well as to the many lives she touched, are a testament to the selfless and spirited nature that everyone came to love.

Even as her health began to decline, Ann never lost her zest for life. She remained the life of the party, the center of attention, and always had a smile ready for everyone she met. Her love for her family was unmatched, anchoring her in a life that was lived with purpose and overflowing with grace.

Ann embodied the very essence of loving and selfless energy, and her ability to uplift and support others defined her as much as her contagious laughter and spirited presence. She welcomed every challenge with open arms and every success with humility, always focusing on the happiness and well-being of others. Her legacy is one of love and unselfishness—a true matriarch whose impact will be felt for generations.

Funeral services for Ann will be held on Monday, July 8th, 2024, at 2:30 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Johnson Memorial Gardens. The Reverend Rusty Letson will officiate. Ann’s family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:30 PM (EDT) until the service hour at the funeral home.
