Post: Marcus Kirby “Marc” Underwood Obituary

 


We come together today to honor and celebrate the life of Marcus Kirby Underwood, affectionately known as Marc, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on August 19, 1951, in Langdale, Alabama, Marc’s journey through life was one marked by dedication, warmth, and intellect. He passed away peacefully at his residence in Valley, Alabama, on June 7, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Marc is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Ann Underwood, and their loving children: sons Curt and Hunter Underwood, stepdaughter Rendee Gullatt, and stepson Phillip Gullatt. Marc’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Ashley Morris, Cameron Gullatt, Brandon Avery, Marcus R. Gullatt, and Tymalie Crawford (John), as well as his great-grandchildren, Luke, Lilliana, and Alaia Gullatt. His brother, Micky Underwood (Mary Susan), along with his niece, Shay Abrams (Mike), and nephew, Josh Underwood (Sarah), will remember Marc’s guiding presence. He also leaves behind his father-in-law, Phillip Reynolds, and sisters-in-law, Pat Barrett (Chuck) and JoLynn Wilkins, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Marc was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Bobbie Underwood, and his sister, Kathy Underwood.

Marc’s commitment to his country was evident through his service of 8 years in the United States Marine Corps reserves, a period during which he exemplified courage and loyalty. His professional life was equally distinguished, having worked as a Lab Technician with esteemed companies such as West Point Pepperell, Wellington Sears, and Kaydon. Marc’s analytical mind and friendly demeanor made him a respected figure in his field and among his colleagues.

Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Marc was a man of many passions. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, finding peace and joy in the natural beauty of Alabama. His love for sports was undeniable, as he was a fervent supporter of Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves. Marc’s intelligence shone through in his strategic approach to both his hobbies and his work, and his friendly nature made him a beloved member of his community.

 As we say farewell to Marcus Kirby Underwood, we reflect on a life lived with honor, kindness, and a deep commitment to the values he held dear. Marc’s memory will be treasured in the hearts of those who loved him, and his influence will continue to be felt through the lives of his family and the many people he touched. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose and love, and he will be deeply missed.

Funeral services for Marc will be held on Monday, June 10th, 2024, at 3:00 PM (EDT) at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Fairfax Cemetery. Pastor Barry Clanton will officiate. Marc’s family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 2:00 PM (EDT) until the service hour at the funeral home.
