This program brought together 40 university students from all over the country who interned<br \/>\nin the Auburn-Opelika area over the summer. The cities of Auburn and Opelika teamed up to host<br \/>\nevents that provided the interns an opportunity to connect, learn and grow while gaining a better<br \/>\nunderstanding of post-graduation opportunities available in the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&nbsp;FuelAL Auburn-Opelika was funded through a grant from the Economic Development Partnership of<br \/>\nAlabama (EDPA) and Innovate Alabama. It was also supported by the Opelika Industrial Development<br \/>\nAuthority and the  Industrial Development Board of the City of Auburn. This marks the second year the<br \/>\nCity of Auburn has participated in the program, having partnered with Montgomery to showcase the<br \/>\narea in 2023. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u201cThe FuelAL program has been instrumental in one of our three pillars of workforce development,<br \/>\ntalent attraction,\u201d said Amy Brabham, the City of Auburn\u2019s Workforce Development director. \u201cWe are<br \/>\nalways looking for ways to keep young talent in our market, and this program allows us to showcase<br \/>\nthe fun things in Auburn and Opelika.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/adntesting.online\/chambersledger\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_2524.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"4032\" data-original-width=\"3024\" height=\"425\" src=\"https:\/\/adntesting.online\/chambersledger\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_2524-225x300.jpg\" width=\"319\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The summer started with an orientation event at Tiger Town Sports. Attendees enjoyed a day filled<br \/>\nwith insightful talks from distinguished guest speakers, fun-filled activities and the chance to connect<br \/>\nwith peers and mentors in a relaxed and friendly environment. They gained unique insights from<br \/>\nAuburn Mayor Ron Anders and Opelika Ward 5 City Councilman Todd Rauch.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Participants also visited Auburn University\u2019s Tony &amp; Libba Rane Culinary Science Center. Interns had an<br \/>\nexclusive opportunity to participate in a private cooking class with a renowned chef followed by a<br \/>\nmemorable evening of networking on the hotel&#8217;s rooftop.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The group was fortunate enough to visit two local industries, Bonnie Plants in Opelika and RAPA in<br \/>\nAuburn, where they were given behind-the-scenes tours and networking opportunities with industry<br \/>\nexecutives.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&nbsp;\u201cAnother exciting event for the interns was a private tour of the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts<br \/>\nCenter at Auburn University. The students were given a private tour of the backstage areas, stage,<br \/>\namphitheater and pit area as well as an overview of the history and vision of the impressive venue.<br \/>\nThey ended the night with a private dinner at Amsterdam Caf\u00e9. We look forward to continuing this<br \/>\nsuccessful program in the future,\u201d said Griffin O\u2019Connor, project manager of Workforce Development,<br \/>\nOpelika Economic Development.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The group had two athletic outings, including an exclusive look at Auburn University\u2019s new Woltosz<br \/>\nFootball Performance Center and participating in a pickleball clinic and tournment at the Opelika<br \/>\nSportsplex.<br \/>\nStudents were matched with local young professionals who acted as their mentors throughout the<br \/>\nprogram. Each student also took the DISC personal assessment tool, which is designed to help improve<br \/>\nteamwork, communication and productivity in the workplace. They received personal evaluation<br \/>\nreports and were taught how to apply the results in life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">FuelAL Auburn-Opelika hosted a graduation ceremony in downtown Opelika where the graduates<br \/>\ncelebrated their achievements with their bosses and mentors.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&nbsp;Those interested in participating in the program in 2025 are encouraged to keep an eye out for<br \/>\napplications in spring 2025 at auburnalabama.org and opelika-al.gov.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OPELIKA &amp; AUBURN, Ala. \u2013 FuelAL Auburn-Opelika has completed its first year with a successful program.
